A mini biography as put out from VP Records. I will add more info following.
btw...full name Sean Paul Ryan Frances Henriques
Sean Paul Henriques was blessed with life on the 9th day of January 1973. Hailing from a heritage rich in creativity - his mother is a renowned Jamaican painter - legend has it that his paternal ancestors were horse-rustlers, fleeing Portuguese bounty hunters - shipwrecked on Jamaica during a daring escape. Sean Paul's lineage derives from a myriad of cultures - his descendants trodding from such ancient civilizations as Africa, China and Europe. Schooled at such esteemed learning institutions as Wolmer's, Hillel and Bel-Air, Sean made sure he furthered his education before pursuing his musical destiny. Whilst at school Sean excelled at sports - representing his country in swimming and water polo at many international events. He went on to study for hotel management at UTECH, before finding employment in a bank - "counting other people's money!" he jokes. Whilst very thankful for the privileged position his hard-earned education had furnished, the Dancehall bug had bitten Sean and there simply was no cure. When he was thirteen his mother had given him a "little thirty-dollar keyboard. I remember thinking this was all I needed to make dancehall rhythms!" Sean reminisces. Shabba Ranks, Super Cat, Major Worries and a whole heap of hip-hop artistes made up Sean's musical preference as he worked his DJ apprenticeship. After attracting attention on the mic at local block parties and barbeques, Sean made use of his links with Third world band members Cat Coore, Bunny Rugs and Carrot Jarret: they introduced him to the professional side of the business and encouraged him to exercise his talents further. Dancehall pulsing through his veins, Sean honed his craft until he came to voice his debut single - "Baby Girl" for producer Jeremy Harding's 2 Hard Records label in 1996. The song was a bombshell and blasted the way for many more hits - "Nah Get No Bly", "Deport Them", "Infiltrate", "Excite Me", are amongst the tunes which have helped establish Sean Paul as a major force in the Dancehall arena. As the millennium closed, Sean was requested to combine with the MOBO award winner Mr. Vegas and multi-platinum selling rapper DMX for the soundtrack of "Belly" - Hype William's 1999 blockbuster movie. "Hot Gal Today" - also a combination with Mr. Vegas went on to attract further international attention - it was voted number twelve in SPIN magazine's Top 20 singles of the year, and left a great number of fans expecting, if not demanding, an album from Sean. --VPRecords.com Sean Paul's first Album Stage One
Here is more info and sources from Wikipedia (born January 9, 1973) is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist. He is professionally known only by his first names, Sean Paul. Sean Paul was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and spent his early years "comfortably" (according to his VH1 biography[1]) in Upper Saint Andrew Parish, a few miles north of his birthplace. His parents were both talented athletes, and his mother Frances, is a well-known painter.[2] His father Garth is Portuguese and his mother is of Afro-Caribbean and Chinese descent, although both were born in Jamaica.[3] In line with his Sephardic heritage, he was a pupil at the island's Hillel Academy, a non-religious school funded by the local Jewish community.[citation needed] He claims to be a direct descendant of Solomon through his father.[4] Many members of Sean Paul's family are swimmers.[5] His grandfather was on the first Jamaican men's national water polo team.[6] His father also played water polo for the team in the 1960s, and competed in long-distance swimming, while Sean Paul's mother was a backstroke swimmer.[7] Sean Paul played for the national water polo team from the age of thirteen to twenty-one.[8] However, he gave up the sport in order to launch his musical career.
Born Sean Paul Ryan Frances Henriques on January 9, 1973, the multi-ethnic Paul (his parents have African, Chinese and Portuguese blood) grew up comfortably in St. Andrew, Jamaica, his mother a renowned painter. He was a skilled athlete, excelling in swimming and especially water polo, playing for the Jamaican national team in the latter. Although his education was enough to land a prosperous career, dancehall music remained Paul's first love, particularly crafting rhythm tracks. He became a DJ after he began writing his own songs, patterning his style largely after Super Cat and finding a mentor in Don Yute; he also found contacts in several members of the reggae-pop band Third World in 1993, which helped open up business connections. Musical career Dancehall music was Sean Paul's first love, and he became proficient at crafting rhythm tracks. He became a deejay after writing his own songs, basing his style largely on the works of Super Cat and Don Yute. The latter was later to become his idol and mentor. Sean Paul was closely connected to the reggae-pop band Third World. His brother, Jason "Jigzagula" Henriques, and his best friend Zameer Masjedee helped him open up business connections. Sean Paul released his debut single "Baby Girl (Don't Cry)" with producer Jeremy Harding in 1996.[citation needed] It proved a significant success, and led to further Jamaican hits like "Nah Get No Bly (One More Try)", "Deport Them", "Excite Me", "Infiltrate", and "Strategy". In 1999, Sean Paul started to attract audiences in the United States. He was commissioned to collaborate with fellow dancehall hitmaker Mr. Vegas on a production for rapper DMX, entitled "Top Shotter". The song went on to be included in the film Belly (dir. Hype Williams). Paul also recorded the Jamaican chart-topper "Ladies Man" with rapper Spanner Banner, through the latter's label, Sweet Angel Productions. The success of "Ladies Man" resulted in Sean Paul being approached by the then little-known Harding, who burst on the scene with his production of Beenie Man's crossover hit "Who Am I" and most famously recorded "Baby Girl (Don't Cry)" with Sean Paul. The following single, "Infiltrate", joined the singer's combination hit in the Jamaican top charts. Also that year, Paul scored a top ten hit on the Billboard Rap chart with "Hot Gal Today", which quickly became his signature tune. Sean Paul fell out very publicly with Mr. Vegas over the packaging of Vegas' remix of "Hot Gal Today", but this did not slow Sean Paul's career momentum. He then appeared on Punk'd, 106 & Park, Sean Paul Respect, Making the Video ("Get Busy", "Gimme the Light", "Like Glue", "We Be Burnin'", and "Temperature") and his music videos have been broadcast on MTV and BET. Paul's biggest hits include "Get Busy", "Like Glue", "Gimme the Light", "Baby Boy", "I'm Still in Love With You", "Temperature", and "(When You Gonna) Give It up to Me" (featuring Keyshia Cole). He was nominated for four awards at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards, including male artist of the year, rap artist of the year, hot 100 single of the year, and pop single of the year for his hit "Temperature".[9] Sean Paul is one of the artists that has made appearances on various Riddim Driven albums with various other dancehall artists. He returned to his native Jamaica to perform at the Cricket World Cup 2007 opening ceremony. Stage One (2000) In March 2000, Paul released his first album, Stage One, on VP Records, which included many of his previous hit singles and compilation cuts, plus several new tracks. He played the Summer Jam 2000 in New York City, where he was held in high acclaim. Sean Paul's fanbase grew tremendously with fans from all over the world. In 2001, Sean Paul appeared on Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall's Quest for Fire: Firestarter, Vol. 1 on a single called "Money Jane", which was released in Canada the previous year and featured Jully Black. The video for "Money Jane" won Best Rap Video at the 2001 MuchMusic Video Awards, and the song was nominated for Best Rap Recording at the 2001 Juno Awards.[10][11] Dutty Rock (2002) In 2002, he announced the release of his second album, Dutty Rock. Pushed by the success of the singles "Gimme the Light" and the Billboard Hot 100 topper, "Get Busy", the album was a worldwide success, eventually selling over six million copies. Simultaneously, Sean Paul was heard on Beyoncé's single "Baby Boy" and Blu Cantrell's "Breathe", both chart hits in 2003, and helping to push his reputation further still in the United States. Sean Paul in September 2005. The Trinity (2005) Sean Paul's third album The Trinity was released in on September 27, 2005 which include the hits We Be Burnin', Ever Blazin', Give It up to Me, Temperature and Never Gonna Be The Same. Sean Paul spent part of 2006 opening for Mariah Carey's Adventures of Mimi Tour. In September of that year he started work on his fourth album, and was featured on the single "Break It Off" (High Altitude Riddim) with Rihanna, on her A Girl Like Me album. A new age (2007-present) His new album is coming soon, and he already released a single "Watch Them Roll" which is featured in VP Records annual compliation cd. Sean Paul also made a little live duo with French hip-hop artist, Diam's, on a French television programme. [1] Discography -

Heres is the article from an old interview of a magazine I purchased, enjoy!

Sean Paul Invites You To His Party By Rex Rutkoski
When he considers the enormity of the accomplishment, all Sean Paul can dio is shake his head and smile. In his country’s long and rich musical tradition, the storied names that is has produced, he finds himself the most successful Jamaican artist ever on the US charts. The natural assumption was that surely it was Bob Marley or the Wailers perhaps Jimmy Cliff, peter Tosh or Toots and the Maytals. But no, it is this reggae and dancehall star whose artistry has been embraced not just by America but the world. “I have to give thanks every day for the life I am able to live as a musician and represent my culture at this level throughout the world”, he says, humbly from his hotel room, where he is just a few hours into a new day. The names that he finds himself above on the sales charts were and are some of his heroes , he says. He hopes they view him as a worthy representation as he spreads his own good vibrations, a heady blend that’s also includes hip-hop If acceptance can be equated in numbers, it is an imprssive embrace. The Kingston, Jamaica born artisit latest album, Trinity, is the follow up to his 6 million selling Grammy-winning breakthrough, cd, Dutty Rock. Trinity enjoyed 21 weeks at No. 1 on Billboards Top Reggae Albums chart, and was certified Platinum in Canada, France and the Gulf States and Gold in Belgium,Hong Hong, Ireland, Switzerland, Japan and the U.K. So far his career, which began professionally in 1995, he had three No 1 singles on the U.S. charts Temperture, Get Busy and Baby Boy, five Top 10 hits including We Be Burnin, and Gimme The Light and eight chart entries over two world wide multi Platinum albums. He demonstrated his versatility in duets with Beyonce {Baby Boy} and Sasha {Im still In love with You} and Mariah Carey has asked him to tour with her, opening The Adventures of Mimi, her first trek in three years. He is said to have refined the reggae category when he won the Grammy, the music iundustry’s highest honor, for best reggae album. He is also a recipient of MTV’s Europe Best New Artist Award as well as International Reggae and World Music Awards. It all offers many more reasons to be grateful Paul said, “I just give thanks that people do relate to it” I don’t have a certain formula. It is a mixture of a lot of different things” He trys to stay alert to new trends in pop culture. “So people can understand my work, I need to talk about certain things that are familiar to them” When you make music its supposed to be joyful thing and bring people together. They are supposed to gravitate towards it” He works to be that magnet by concentrating on all aspects of a song, from lyrics to melody. He believes he brings “ a different type of voice” to dancehall music, concentrating on pronunciation and clarity. “A lot of ladies say ”I love your voice”, he says laughing, He trys to incorporate a lot of different types of hip-hop and popular dancehall elements into his shows and music “It’s all very urban” he says.
If you plan to sit and watch his show, think again, says Paul. He’s not happy until everyone is up and dancing, “I like people to get involved, I make sure people feel they are also on stage. I want people to feel I am at a party with them, feel good vibe, free themselves up, sweat a lot and go home tired as hell and a little bit deaf” He laughs again “Theres no feeling like connecting with an audience , he says, “You can speak to people what you feel” in the beginning, it was different for him. “I was scared of the crowd”, he admits. “Im a very good people person but was shy of the crowd, Then the ladies tried to empower me by screaming” That did the trick. He became popular in Jamaica, “It gave me confidence, a fire that wont let go, says Paul. As much as he loves his live performance now, he says his favorite aspect of the business is writing songs and being in the studio,”where I get to create what happens onstage”. He has been enjoying touring with Mariah Carey. “ She is an excellent artist who showed her talent from year to year, that’s not very easy to do”, he says. “I have a good appreciation of people who stay in the business for more than five years. She has been an inspiration to me, not just because she can sing, but because of her staying power” He hopes his own expression will enjoy such longevity. “My music, up to this point, is about partying and having a good time. My influence to do this type of music comes straight from the reggae dancehall and hip-hop” he says. “It comes from a feeling I had as a kid, a youngster, and thinking about the world, growing up without my father, who went to prison when I was a teenager, I wondered what the world had in store for me”. What once helped him to go out and socialize with his friends, he says, “That’s the feeling I put into my music, reggae dancehall and hip hop, wanting a break from the whole feeling of doing so much studies and worrying about what you want to grow up to be” He attempted to give people a break from their own worries, he says While that remains his goal, lately he has been writing a lot more “social conscience” songs, We’ll see where it takes me from there”. Music remains a powerful force with which to communicate, he says. “It has brought people together over thousands of years. Many different cultures make different types of music. These things came together in modern society and we call it various genres, But really, it’s still these tribes who have come together musically over the years and had no way of recording. Music was meant to be blended, which is why I can do a song with an R&B artist like Beyonce and it works, and I could do one with a rock band and it probably would work”. So many people of all ages and backgrounds can relate to reggae because of many cultures from which it draws , he theorizes, “Jamaica is a small country, but we have been blessed with many different types of diverse culture being there 400years of African, European, Asian and other influences. It makes our work in general very vibrant. The food and music and dance are very vibrant. We understand different cultures of the world.” With Trinity, he wanted people to have a better appreciation of the talent that is in his country, “I wanted to prove to people that Jamaican producers are good enough on the world level” he says. “It was all done right here in the Third World. Jamaica offers the “real reggae”, the “real dancehall”, which is the roots of hip-hop he syas. He sees the thematic message of the album being that even in the darkest times, people have to find a way to enjoy their lives. “The important thing is to make the most of the times we have without taking away from anybody else” he adds. The album’s title suggest a spiritual context as well as references to the fact he devoted three years to completing this, his third album, and the fact that there are three key elements to his music in reggae, dancehall, and hip-hop R&B. He views himself as very much a spiritual person and feels a sense of responsibility in remembering that in his creative expression, “I always have a feeling of unity in the songs” he says. “I want to provide a very different type of music for the world, something fresh. It is urban and called dancehall music. I want to be more socially conscience. My music has already brought joy with its crazy vibes in clubs and people cars and homes. “Now I would love to say something to people”.

Heeeeeeeey! My first post! Sean Paul news... If you don't know Sean will be dropping his 4th album this November 07 and titles " A New Age" Im sure like the rest of all you fans, I can't wait! I found out he was not in attendance at Bryant Park In New York City on 8/24 performing with Eve. She performed solo and I wasn't there to be able to go see it anyway, so it works out for me! I guess he is at home working and close to his family through this whole Hurricane Dean ordeal! Prayers to everyone there and have heard only a few lives lost, but one too many and my prayers are with those family's , the most damage was to homes and electricity and such and Dean has left Jamaica. If you guys have any news feel free to post, I'm just doing this for myself so I can ramble, LOL! Seriously, post any good things about Sean, any stories you can share and photos, but no haters! I will delete hate posts! Take your hating ass elsewhere! thats' it for now! BTW...someone in my family was nice enough to videotape it for me while I was gone and I got to see it when I got home and Eve did a good job, wished she put more effort on a stage outfit though... Im going to try to embed the song they sing together "Give It To You" later on
